How to open your Barilla Bay Oysters?
If you have purchased unopened oysters with the intent of opening them yourself, here are a few helpful hints.
1 Always wear thick rubber kitchen gloves - this enables you to get a good hold of the oyster.
2 Make sure your knife is sharp - more accidents are caused with blunt knives than with sharp ones.
3 Always point the knife downwards, not towards your hand.
4 Be very careful, don’t rush.

Keeping Your Oysters Fresh
Generally oysters which have been opened will last safely for up to 5 days under correct temperature control. Optimum holding temperature 1-4 degrees Celsius. Unopened oysters will last up to 7 days if stored in hygienic conditions below 7 degrees Celsius and kept covered.
Seasonality of Oysters
Barilla Bay Oysters is readily available for most of the year, depending on the time they spawn. This is when they reproduce; Tasmanian Pacific oysters generally spawn in late summer.
Barilla Bay Oyster stout
Yes, Barilla Bay Oyster Stout does contain oysters! Based on an old Irish recipe, fresh Barilla Bay oysters are combined with premium Australian malts to produce a silky smooth stout in the best Irish tradition.
The stout is a dark velvet colour and has a very smooth creamy mouth feel reinforced with low to medium carbonation, which allows the full stout flavours to dominate. On a palate of roasted malt there are hints of smokiness, and a touch of salt which balances a slight sweetness in the finish. There are definitely no fishy aromas or tastes present in the beer. A stout suitable for all tastes.
Why use oysters in stout? It is thought that originally oyster shell was added to brew water to boost calcium levels which enhances the body, mouth feel and taste of ales and stouts.
Barilla Bay Worcestershire Sauce
Barilla Bay Worcestershire sauce is made from our own unique recipe of the finest spices and fruit. It contains all natural ingredients and is cooked slowly over a period 4-5 hours. This slow cooking greatly enhances the flavours.
A dash of Worcestershire sauce gives a lift to almost any savoury recipe, especially casseroles, soups, grilled meats and cheese dishes. It is also an essential addition to Oysters Kilpatrick, seafood cocktail sauce and of course the traditional “Bloody Mary”.
